India Abstains from voting in UNSC

India in the UN Security Council abstained from voting for the US-backed UNSC resolution that “deplores in the strongest terms” Russia’s “aggression” against Ukraine.

China, like the United Arab Emirates, abstained (UAE) while the other 11 members voted in favor. The resolution, however, did not pass since Russia(a member of the big five veto power countries), which chairs the UNSC meeting due to its presidency for the month of February, rejected the resolution.

India’s Permanent Representative at the UN T S Tirumurti, talked about the importance of ‘dialogue’ as they way of settling differences and expressed his regret over the path of diplomacy being abandoned by the two countries.
