Indian National, Indermit Gill appointed as the Chief Economist of the World Bank

The World Bank had recently appointed Indermit Gill, who now takes over as the chief economist and senior vice president for development economics, Effective 1st September 2022.
Indermit Gill brings in his leadership, impeccable expertise, and practical experience while working for several Governments on macroeconomic imbalances, growth, and poverty. Gill is only the second Indian to hold this position, previously held by Kaushik Basu from 2012 to 2016. Other Notable Indians who have held the chief economist post are Dr. Raghuram Rajan and Gita Gopinath for the international monetary fund, the sister organisation of the world bank.
Gill previously was the vice president for equitable growth, finance, and institutions at the bank and Led the work on macroeconomics, Debt, Trade, Poverty, and governance.
